Let’s Answer with the Z4 (with Dr. Z’s Help)!!! — ZVRS Answering Machine (My Mail) Feature #2

For this week, Dr. Z is putting up tips about the fantastic feature that everyone is talking about–the Z4 and its answering machine (My Mail)!

The new answering machine (My Mail) that is part of the Z4 and all the Z-phones (Z-150, Z-340 and Z-Ojo) has so many cool features and by giving it to you piece by piece will allow you to appreciate the power of the Z4! Some of these features may be documented, some may be hidden and some may not be documented–but don’t let this bother you–as a software pioneer himself, Dr. Z has found it best to not “read the stuff”, but play with the stuff–the actual experience is usually the best way to learn.

Most of the other VRS providers have the answering machine feature, but it is usually just for VRS calls OR for point to point calls. The Z4 (and all Z-phones) feature handles BOTH VRS and point-to-point calls. We call this the My Mail feature. Messages are forwarded to your pager or smartphone. Messages can be picked up on the Z4 or checked on the web.

The second thing to do is to customize (or create) a video message for point-to-point calls. To do that, call the SAME number on the videophone assigned to the Z4 (or the Z-150, Z-340 and Z-Ojo). You will get as screen asking you to customize. At this point, you only need to enter the number assigned to what it is asking for, like “2” for “Customize Settings.” Then “1” for “Customize Greeting.” At that point, it will record the message of you telling the caller you are not available and to leave a message. That message will be saved and will be played whenever a caller calls you and you are not available (like a missed call.)

The next time a call comes in wehen you are not available, the message you recorded will be played and then a new message will come up on the caller’s screen asking them to leave a message. The My Mail feature will record the caller’s message which usually is something like “Sorry to have missed you, please call me at .,…” That message is then sent to the Zvrs website (in your profile), to the email (or pager) address you specified in the profile and to the Z-Phone. You can pick up your message in any of these places.

Try it! This gets you close to full functional equivalence. All the hearing folks out there have voicemail and we now have our own videomail which works even better.

Let’s Answer with the Z4 (with Dr. Z’s Help)!!! — ZVRS Answering Machine (My Mail) Feature #1

The first thing to do to enable the answering machine (My Mail) feature is to go to the www.zvrs.com website and click on “My Profile” at the top. After you enter your name and password, click on “My Videophones” to your left. Select the videophone you are using (Z4, Z-150, Z-340 or Z-Ojo), and check and fill out the “Z-Alert” and “Enable My Mail”. You should enter your smartphone or pager address in the email box (It only works for Blackberry and iPhones.) Also read the VRS Video Mail Custom Greeting to be sure that would be the message for the interpreter to convey when they answer your number when you are not available. Then click “Save”. To create your message for point-to-point calls, you need to do it on your Z4 (or Z-Phones.)

To access videomail (My Mail) on the Z4, call the same number you were assigned for the Z4. (It works the same way for the Z-phones (Z-150, Z-340 and Z-Ojo.)

Let’s Rock with the Z4 (with Dr. Z’s Help)!!! — ZVRS Feature #6

For this week, Dr. Z is putting up features about the fantastic videophone that everyone is talking about–the Z4!

The Z4 has so many cool features and by giving it to you piece by piece will allow you to appreciate the power of the Z4! Some of these features may be documented, some may be hidden and some may not be documented–but don’t let this bother you–as a software pioneer himself, Dr. Z has found it best to not “read the stuff”, but play with the stuff–the actual experience is usually the best way to learn.

The sixth cool feature about the Z4 is the answering machine feature—it allows both deaf and hard of hearing and hearing people to leave a message on your Z4 (and all other Z phones-Z150, Z340 and ZOjo)

Most of the other VRS providers have the answering machine feature, but it is usually just for VRS calls OR for point to point calls. The Z4 (and all Zphones) feature handles BOTH VRS and point-to-point calls. We call this the My Mail feature. Messages are forwarded to your pager or smartphone. Messages can be picked up on the Z4 or checked on the web.

For more information on the My Mail (answering machine) feature, check this website: http://www.zvrs.com/z-services/my-mail

Let’s Rock with the Z4 (with Dr. Z’s Help)!!! — ZVRS Feature #5

The fifth cool feature about the Z4 is the multiparty feature—it is the “A” “B” and “3-face” buttons on the upper right side of the Z4 screen. It allows you to do 2 things:

1) switch between two parties, putting one on hold while you talk to the other
2) talk to 2 people at the same time, including yourself (to make it a 3-party call).

To make it work, click “A” and call the first party; then click “B” and call the second party. The first party will be put on hold when you call the second party. When you click “A”, the “B” party is put on hold. When you click the “3-face” button, both “A” and “B” parties appear on your screen, plus the screen where you see yourself. To make the screen clearer, hit the “ESC” button to go into full screen mode.

Try it! It only works when you are connected to someone in a conversation.

Cool. isn’t it? Check in with Dr. Z every day of the week this week (March 22-26) for more hints about the power of the Z4!

Let’s Rock with the Z4 (with Dr. Z’s Help)!!! — ZVRS Feature #4

The fourth cool feature about the Z4 is the “record” button—it is the RED button on the right side of the screen, where the “self-view” screen appears. When you hit it during a connected conversation, you will be recording the conversation that is taking place. It will be a great way to record your grandchildren or your little nephews and nieces when they are on the other side of the videophone conversation. You can then save it and export it to be attached to an email by using the other “record” key on the left side of the screen (in the middle of the 4 buttons.) Try it! It only works when you are connected to someone in a conversation. To be fair to the other party, they will see a RED bar on the bottom of the screen to indicate that the conversation is recorded.

RED BUTTON = RECORDING CONVERSATION!!

Let’s Rock with the Z4 (with Dr. Z’s Help)!!! — ZVRS Feature #3

For this week, Dr. Z will put up features about the fantastic videophone that everyone is talking about–the Z4!

The Z4 has so many cool features and by giving it to you piece by piece will allow you to appreciate the power of the Z4! The third cool feature about the Z4 is the first letter of the name in the contact list. When you bring up the contact list to the left of your Z4 screen, a list of names appear. You can scroll it down with the keyboard or the mouse. BUT, there’s a much quicker way to go through the list–hit the first letter of the name on the list and it will JUMP right to the name with the same letter. Try it–you will like it!

Hit letter of NAME = JUMPS TO NAME ON LIST!!!
